Making a hinge mortising fixture.

Router Guide Bushing

In computer programming there is a term called “stuck in an endless loop”. Usually programs do the same thing over and over using different numbers and if you somehow forget to tell the program how to stop executing the loop it just continuously keeps doing the loop forever. Sometimes us humans

Finishing up the Enclosure for the Power Supply

The final enclosure with everything mounted

Way back there I did all the sheet metal bending to form an enclosure box for my power supply. (Post “Brains not tools… Making an Enclosure for Electronics“). I did not like the power supply board open because it has 120 V on it in some areas and

Removing old, glued down, vinyl flooring.

The room after we were done with it.

This site is not about typical do-it-yourself home remodeling but I just put a large amount of effort in doing just that and I think I have something to add so I will add it. The room was in bad shape and our Granddaughter will be

A Request and an Open Invitation to guide this site.

Posts will be coming out very slow for awhile. There are several reasons for that. I have just been assigned some work at my daily employment that is in an area I am not as familiar with as I want to be. It is time for me to do some digging into some software so

Brains not tools… Making an Enclosure for Electronics.

Step 1 Create the Plans.

Sometimes you just gotta do it yourself. Even if it probably makes no sense to do it. I spent a big part of the weekend building an enclosure box for the power-supply I have been using with the thermistor board. However,I consider it a success and I learned a

The Thermistor Board is Calibrated!!!

Final Calibration.

The Thermistor Circuit Board is Calibrated! I was able to successfully calibrate it at 0 deg C and 70 deg C. Now is the time to think about what went right, what went wrong and what is the next step, both for this blog and with this project.

What Went Right!

First,

Update on testing the thermistor circuit board.

The final version of the circuit.

All the troubleshooting is complete and the circuit is working well. They say experience is the best teacher… just too bad it comes too late. My dad has a related saying: “Experience is the best teacher, but it is a heck of a lot easier if it is

Testing Testing Testing … Smoke ’em if you got ’em.

The component side of the Thermistor Board.

Sooner or later there comes a time… a time when you just got to plug it in and find out if it is going to work. Hence my title “Smoke ’em if you got ’em”. Success, no smoke came out. However, there has been more than one problem.

Encapsulating the problem… Waterproofing the solder joints.

Coatings I tried to use to insulate the solder joints.

Almost everything in design is a compromise. Even something as simple as insulating wire connections that may be exposed to water. It always comes back to: “What are you trying to accomplish”, and even then often there are compromises. In the case of the

Printed Circuit Boards – Part II of Creating our Masterpiece.

A Recent Built Electronic Kit.

Last night I discussed the basics of laying out a circuit board. Tonight I will discuss some about how boards are constructed. The picture to the right is a fairly simple printed circuit board, PCB, that came as part of an electronic kit I recently bought. It will be
